Muscle Weakness Post Surgery

Muscle Weakness Post Surgery

Following the majority of surgeries your dog will require a period of rest or restricted movement and it is during this time muscle wasting can occur.

Just as in humans’ muscles atrophy very quickly and so when it is time for them to be used again they can be weak and feel non-responsive.
Exercises to strengthen and rebuild function are required and these in themselves can cause discomfort and pain.

Massage can be a great support in easing the pain and encouraging nutrients to the tissues thus speeding up tissue recovery. In addition massage can help to realign and remodel the scar tissue caused or created by the surgery allowing for easier movement of the repaired tissue
